Ian Lowthian's Music Weekends

Dates and Availability

Here are the latest dates for 2021 - All weekends will be delivered by Zoom until we're allowed to welcome you all back here to the beautiful Scottish Borders. We miss you!!

MIXED INSTRUMENTS - Unless otherwise stated, all weekends at the moment will be for mixed instruments. However, if you are not an accordionist please be aware that there may be some discussion specific to the accordion. Some of this discussion may be about chords and harmony which may be quite interesting! I'll keep it to a minimum, but feel free to go and make a cup of tea!

ACCORDIONISTS - Don't worry, I will add some accordion specific weekends soon, such as an Advanced Accordion Weekend, Left Hand Technique Weekend or Classical Music Weekend.

April 17/18 - Advanced Accordion -  Zoom Weekend

May 29/30 - 1920's Tunes -  Zoom Weekend

June 19/20 - Accordion Accompaniment (2nd Box) -  Zoom Weekend

About the weekends

Advanced Accordion Weekend - An opportunity for the more advanced accordionists amongst you to play a bit faster, perhaps look at some advanced left hand patterns, discuss bellows techniques, the use of chords to enhance tunes etc. etc.

1920’s Music – Exactly what it says, tunes from the 1920’s. I would imagine there will be a Charleston in the mix. This weekend is for mixed instruments, however, a wee disclaimer – there may be some accordion talk!

Accordion Accompaniment (2nd Box) – Ideas and examples to use the accordion as an accompaniment instrument. There will be some discussion on chords and a bit of music theory. We may look at bellows techniques such as the bellows shake and vibrato, plus some duet playing and vamping (2nd Box) examples. Possibly some walking bass exercises too!
