About the weekends
Scottish Dance Band Music Weekend (Including 2nd Box)
(Accordion - but fiddles are allowed too!)
Tunes from the Scottish Dance Band tradition with a few examples of 2nd Box (accordion accompaniment) to try out. Scottish jigs, reels, strathspeys, waltzes and polkas and marches in sets for Scottish dancing. Some discussions on ornamentation and 'lift' etc.
Latin American Music
(Accordion)
A chance to explore the rhythms of the rumba, the salsa, the tango, the samba, the bossa nova etc. etc. on your accordion. Should be a bit of a workout weekend for the left hand!
The Old Fashioned Pub Singalong Weekend.
(Mixed Instruments)
A broad repertoire of tunes and songs, old and new that will liven up the pub on the Saturday night. Songs like 'Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner', 'The wild mountain thyme', 'I'll tell my ma', 'Roll out the barrel', 'Whisky in the jar', 'Knees up Mother Brown' etc. No doubt there will be a few sea shanties and pop songs too. Perhaps 'Hi ho silver lining' and 'Sweet Caroline' will crop up.
Abba (and other floor fillers) Weekend.
(Mixed Instruments)
Everyone's favourite Abba songs and other popular tunes that the DJ knows will get everyone on the dance floor. Slightly unusual for accordions and fiddles, or tenor horns for that matter, but why not? It'll be fun!
The Famous Ceilidh/Concert Weekend
(Mixed Instruments)
Every year this weekend just gets better and better. This year we had a band of 26 playing for a ceilidh on the Saturday night. All money raised always goes to charity. I will send out the music in advance to rehearse on the Saturday ahead of the ceilidh in the evening. A great chance to play in a band if you've not had that experience before, without the pressure to hit every note! In fact, if you want to sit some out or have a wee dance yourself, this is allowed! Early booking is recommended, because it is very popular.
Christmas Weekend
(Accordion)
Usual festive nonsense with seasonal jumpers, lights and decorations! Plus a few Christmas tunes of course. The playlist just gets longer and longer. I have a file now with loads and loads of Christmas carols and tunes that we dip into during the weekend.
